Charter Members

The Rho Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® was chartered on Saturday, November 18, 1989 under the leadership of Dorothy Starr Johnson. Marye Jeffries, former director of the Mid-Atlantic Region, performed the ceremony at Sampson Community College in Clinton, North Carolina. The 15 charter members of the chapter were: Mary Brown, Celestene Goodman, Vanessa Hill, Dorothy S. Johnson, Judy A. Johnson, Pamela Jones, Margaret Lawrence, Karla Parker, Quessie Peterson, Rebecca Irene Peterson, Marion Phillips, Geraldine Spates, Janet Spaulding, Yvonne Wallace, and Elaine Walker. The chapter quickly added two incorporated members: Audrey Peterson and Valerie Merritt. Soon afterwards, Eva Lennon and Melma July joined Rho Omega Omega.

Rho Omega Omega received distinction and honor as being the first chapter in the Mid-Atlantic Region to use the New Member Intake Process procedures established by the international office. Thirteen ladies participated in the first intake process on November 4, 1990, and since then 66 additional women have had the pleasure to enter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® as Rho Omega Omega Chapter inductees.
